As Chief Strategy Officer, Mick Martinez is responsible for La Nube’s strategic direction and long-term sustainability. He leads organizational strategy, financial planning, earned revenue, business development, media relations, and marketing and communications. His role focuses on identifying and scaling growth opportunities, strengthening public trust, and ensuring La Nube remains accessible, inclusive, and deeply rooted in community impact.

Mick previously served as La Nube’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications and brings more than 15 years of experience in higher education marketing, branding, design, and strategic planning. Before joining La Nube, he held senior leadership roles at The University of Texas at El Paso, including Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Marketing and Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications for Student Affairs, where he focused on expanding access, advancing undergraduate recruitment, and supporting first-generation students through large-scale, mission-driven initiatives. Mick has a Bachelors degree in graphic design and media advertising, as well as Masters in Business Administration in Marketing.

Mick is deeply passionate about La Nube’s potential to be more than a museum. He believes La Nube can serve as a hub of innovation and a transformative conduit for learning, where children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to explore, create, and imagine what is possible. Through inclusive design, hands-on STEAM experiences, and strong community partnerships, he sees La Nube as a place where curiosity becomes confidence and learning becomes opportunity.

Born and raised in El Paso, Mick sees his work as a way to give back to the community that shaped his story. He believes opportunity should never be limited by circumstance and that access, support, and imagination can change lives.

When he’s not thinking about La Nube, you’ll likely find him on a football field coaching kids, logging miles for his next triathlon, spending time with his wife, Karissa, and his three young children, Noah, Juliana, and Ava, and finding joy in the everyday moments that keep him grounded.
